Better Bearings. Better Business.

As a leading Schaeffler distributor in India, Premier Bearings contributes 1000 million in business to the German industrial giant. We are now one of the top 10 bearing distributors in the world.

But we didn’t stop there. Our vast experience in various industries has allowed us to evolve from mere product distributors to solution providers. In November 2021, Schaeffler, in partnership with Premier Bearings India Ltd., launched a Large Size Bearing (LSB) Refurbishment Centre in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.

“We just don’t distribute Schaeffler bearings, we fix them too.”
Why Bearing Refurbishment is Essential

Bearings form the foundation of a manufacturing plant. They keep high-value machinery operating continuously and efficiently. But over time, large-sized bearings in large-scale applications can accumulate fatigue.

Bearing replacement or refurbishing is essential for the smooth functioning of the parts and their usage to increase the lifespan of the equipment. Maintaining large-sized bearings can help extend bearing service life, reduce machine downtime and minimise unplanned maintenance activities. Apart from keeping bearings healthy, bearing refurbishment is also sustainable. Businesses can save time, money and reduce their raw material consumption instead of manufacturing new bearings and make the procedure viable for the environment.

To illustrate:

When refurbishing level 2 of a 2-row Tapered Roller Bearing, businesses can expect to save 49 tons of CO2. That is equivalent to a distance of:

199.015 km by Flight

294.000 km by Car

1.139.736 km by Train

Key Benefits:
  • Reduction in life cycle costs (LCC)
  • Increase in operating life
  • Savings in material and energy costs
  • Reduction in inventory costs
  • High flexibility through short lead times
  • Feedback on the characteristics and frequencies of damage
Fixing Schaeffler Bearings the Schaeffler Way

The entire process of bearing refurbishment and reconditioning at our LSB centre in Jamshedpur is managed by a dedicated team of bearing repair experts. Following a six-step procedure, our specialists adhere to Schaeffler's global guidelines and reconditioning standards.

Here’s a breakdown of the Schaeffler Methodology
01

Cleaning

After disassembly, all components are cleaned thoroughly. Lubricants and contaminants are removed in order to allow examination.

02

Examination

All components are examined using high-precision measuring and inspection equipment, crack detection, wall thickness measurement & ovality checking.

03

Report / Proposal

The condition of the rolling bearing is documented in an assessment report which contains detailed information.

04

Surface Working

In this operation, contaminants, running marks, fretting corrosion or any other defects of functional surfaces is removed by polishing or soft-grinding methods.

05

Measurement

Dimensions such as mounting dimensions are measured precisely with clearance check, axial clearance setting (optional), hardness testing & documentation.

06

Customer

The last steps include load zone marking, assembling, preservation and wrapping with quality assurance as per Schaeffler standards, followed by delivery and monitoring.

  • Refurbishment operation at Schaeffler authorised facility, under Schaeffler standard and guidance and according to Schaeffler drawings.
  • Use of original components, if required.
  • Done by experts having excellent sector, application and bearing knowledge who use advanced testing methods.
  • Refurbishment takes into account the manufacturing parameters of the new bearing.
Types of Bearings

Refurbishment and modification can be carried out on rolling bearings with diameters from 100 mm to 1000 mm, as well as other sizes.
